about

In the final search for the last song to cover for my protest EP, I kept coming back to this one. I was unsure of whether I felt right singing it, but I kept playing it and felt I needed to sing it. The song itself was inspired by a police brutality incident. Then, one night with my roommate, we were watching Jerry Maguire as we like to watch classic movies from the 90's. Then, Cuba Gooding Jr comes on singing 'What's Going On' during the wedding scene. That sealed the deal.....and also made me curious about that song choice for a wedding!

As with all the songs on this EP, the proceeds will go to the Black Voters Matter Fund (blackvotersmatterfund.org) whose goal is to increase power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities. Effective voting allows a community to determine its own destiny. "We agree with the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he said, “Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” VOTE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. I already voted early in Nashville! Where are you voting and when?

Love and peace,
Lauren

lyrics

Lyrics:
Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today

Father, father
We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today

Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
Oh, what's going on
What's going on
Yeah, what's going on
Ah, what's going on

Mother, mother, everybody thinks we're wrong
Oh, but who are they to judge us
Simply 'cause our hair is long
Oh, you know we've got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today

Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
C'mon talk to me
So you can see
What's going on
